Day or Weekend Trips

This is a new page to list day or weekend trips that you may be planning or doing and would welcome some company. E-mail the ride details and I'll include them here.

One of the favorite rides for a weekend trip from the Winston-Salem area is riding 421 to Bristol, TN.

Usually we'll leave around 8 a.m. and head west thru Yadkin County, Wilkes Co and on up into Boone, NC. Take a break in Boone and have a cup of coffee in one of the shops there and browse around to stretch. Then it's back on the road (staying on 421) thru Mountain City, TN and on into Shady Valley (What a beautiful Ride). Now hold on for some fun stuff. You are about hit a few miles of nothing but downhill, back-to-back curves through the Cherokee National Forest. Staying on 421 into Bristol, TN, I would recommend stopping downtown and having a walk around. Then head east on the Volunteer Parkway out to the Bristol Speedway. Even if you're not a race fan (I'm not), it's a great stop to make. (Call ahead for times of tours). If you like the mountain riding, go on into Johnson City for the night. There are several clubs and a lot of good restaurants to enjoy. Then take 321 back into NC and on into Blowing Rock, Boone and back Home.

If you prefer some Interstate riding coming back on Sunday, I would stay at exit 7 (Bristol, VA) where you will find plenty of good places to eat (but no clubs other than Hotel Bars). Stop thru Abingdon, VA on the way home. Take 81 north to 77 south at Wythville, and you're on the way home.
Hope you will give this trip a go.
