TO ALL OF DANNY’S FRIENDS AND THE FOLKS WHO BECAME HIS NORTH CAROLINA FAMILY:
Thank you for each and every act of kindness you showed Danny in life and for all that you have done to support him in his passing. The work you have done and the love you have shown has helped me in ways I could never begin to describe. Thanks for your leadership, thanks for picketing, thanks for your time, thanks for being in the courtroom, thanks for coming to Staunton, thanks for contributing to Lorri’s college fund, thanks for all the special events that have honored both Danny and the life he lived, and a special thanks for the warmth and hospitality each and every one of you have shown me.
Many of you have mentioned Danny’s gentle spirit so I am sending along a saying that I think, in many ways, represents what he would wish for all of us.
ON THIS DAY...
Mend a quarrel. Search out a forgotten friend. Dismiss suspicion, and replace it with trust. Write a love letter. Share some treasure. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Manifest your loyalty in a word or deed. Keep a promise. Find the time. Forego a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Listen. Apologize if you were wrong. Try to understand. Flout envy. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Appreciate, be kind, be gentle. Laugh a little more. Deserve confidence. Take up arms against malice. Decry complacency. Express your gratitude. Worship your God. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the wonder and beauty of earth. Speak your love. Speak it again. Speak it still again. Speak it still once again.
