There's Mother in California,
Whose heart is aching now,
There's a girl in Indiana,
Who feels the same somehow.

There's a guy far away,
At a place they call Da Nang.
And it's his absence,
That's the cause of all this pain.

Johnny's heart is also aching,
For it's home he longs to go.
With his family and his loved ones,
They miss each other so.

There is a battle to be won,
But it won't be long before,
He'll come walking up the driveway,
And opening the door.

Tender words and happy faces,
Will greet him on that day.
And his father's face is beaming,
He says "Johnny's home to stay."
