A FLIER'S FIGHT FOR FREEDOM
by
MAJ George M. Miller
12th ACS (Defl)
Extracted
from the Pacific Stars and Stripes Jan 30th 1967 issue.
There's a war going
on in this land; far from the USA,
Much sweat and blood will be let, before the last battle is o'er.
It's a war to thwart communism, so the politicians say,
But we don't mind -- that's what we are here for.
There are bridges
to bomb, roads to strafe,
Trails to be defoilated, and re-con from shore to shore,
With gallant rescues to be made to keep our pilots safe,
But we don't mind -- that's what we are trained for.
There will be dogfights,
and other duels in the sky,
Followed later by medals, decorations and high honors galore,
There will be tears amid the sweat, as we watch our comrades die,
But we don't mind -- that's what we fly for.
This is a war to
keep all men free,
To keep that communist wolf from their door.
The final end, men like us may never see,
But we don't mind -- we believe in what we are fighting for.
